June 15, 2000:
The sightseeing bus
June
15 was rather easy-going, but we needed a break after all exitement. The
weather had changed. It didn’t remind any longer of North German „Schmuddelwetter“
(this is a kind of weather with an overcasted sky and a bit of rain). The
sun was shining and no clouds were in the sky. We decided to do a sightseeing
with a tourist bus (Placa Catalunya). It was very hot on the upper deck,
so that I better stayed downstairs, during the second tour. The number
of my freckles had definitely grown.
The tour bus passed all sights of
Barcelona, among other things the soccer stadium of the FC Barcelona, Camp
Nou. Well, it is sure an attraction for soccer fans, to which the Spaniards
and especially the Catalans belong. Because of the centenary of the FC
Barcelona, José Carreras had given a concert in the stadium.
Parc de la Ciutadella, Arc del Triomf and Barri
Gòtic
In
the afternoon I walked through the Parc de la Ciutadella, the area where
the first Barcelonian World Exhibition took place in 1988. At that time
the Arc del Triomf was the entrance portal.100 years after this World Exhibition,
the place under the triumph arch served as the venue for a very special
day in the life of José Carreras. On July 21, 1988 he gave his first
concert after his Leukemia there. It is said, that about 150.000 people
attended this concert.
I took the route through
the picturesque Gothic district (and of course first through the Arc del
Triomf) back to our hotel.
Email 4you
In the afternoon we went into the next
internet café in order to write some greetings to our friends and
team members Sharon and Jean in Canada and Great Britain, who had to do
all the hard work alone, while we were on a pleasure-trip in Barcelona.
A picture postcard would have needed
too long to get there. Besides of this we saw more internet cafés
than post offices in Barcelona.Because of this some postcards remained
unsend and some emails have been exchanged.
